Vintage Telegram Thursday: Lillie Carroll Jackson

#1955Telegram from #LillieCarrollJackson, President of #NAACP (#402DolphinStreet)to pioneering #CityCouncilman #WalterTDixon:

"1200 citizens at NAACP membership meeting at #SharpStreetMemorialMethodistChurch #DolphinandEttingStreet unanimously voted to respectively urge you to vote and work for the passage of FEPC in this city council."

The FEPC she referred to was the #FairEmploymentPracticeCommittee, established in 1941 by #PresidentFranklinDRoosevelt to prevent discrimination against African Americans in defense and government jobs.

This is a part of a civil rights project that Nanny Jack & Co, LLC is working on. More details in the future!

Our archives contains literally hundreds of telegrams to and from Black folks from the 1890s until the 1970s.
