Lockett Family of Macon, Georgia

The #LockettFamilyCollection contains almost 60 items documenting their family, friends, and HBCU experiences. This wonderful #RealPhotoPostcard is from 1918 on the campus of #LincolnUnivPA in #OxfordPA... 106 years ago. The president was #RevJohnBallardRendall.

In the past, we have largely focused on Bob and Dick Lockett from #MaconGA and their connection to the revered #HainesNormalAndIndustrialInstitute, established by #LucyCraftLaney in #AugustaGA. Many male Haines graduates often attended Lincoln University and in 1967, Lincoln opened #LucyLaneyHall in honor of that connection.

The gentleman labeled #6 was #WilliamKnoxSanders from #CharotteNC. He was the son of #RevDanielSanders, the first Black president of #HBCU #BiddleUniversity, now known as #JohnsonCSmithUniversity in #CharlotteNC.

The woman labeled #2 was #AmazaMorris, future wife of #DickLockett and daughter of Dr. Morris. In later years, she served on the #LincolnUniversityWomensAuxiliary and there is an #AmazaMLockettEndowedScholarship at #LincolnUnivPA named in her honor.

Thank you to Dick Lockett for having the mindset to label this real photo postcard and for admitting that he forgot the man's name from #AtlantaGA.

I remember Mrs. Amaza Lockett when I was a student at Lincoln University. Also, Don Lockett was classmate of my father in Class of '24.
